    Roadwork construction update: July 27-31

A summary of roadwork activities for the week of July 27.

    • Earlier this week the final layer of asphalt was paved on George and Okill Streets.
    • Work to connect storm and sanitary sewers continues in the intersection of George Street and Stuart Street. Once work is complete in the intersection, excavation will continue on Stuart Street, proceeding westerly.
    • The majority of work has been completed on Arch Street, with crews returning in the next few weeks to complete sewer and manhole connections.
    • Electrical work is taking place on the south side of Stuart Street between George and Arch. Once completed, crews will begin to work on curb and sidewalk replacement in this area.

On a separate note, starting this week, contractors and Utilities Kingston staff will be working in the intersection of Union Street and University Avenue to prepare upgrades for the installation of a pedestrian scramble crossing. Work will continue off and on until the early September and minor delays should be expected in the area.

A pedestrian scramble crossing involves a cycle where all traffic signals are red, stopping vehicle traffic completely to allow pedestrians to cross the intersection in any direction, including diagonally.
