Roadwork construction update: June 1 - 5

A summary of roadwork activities for the week of June 1

  • Work on underground utilities on Okill Street has been completed. Beginning next week crews will begin electrical work and surface restoration (road base building and sidewalk installation) on Okill Street.
  • Crews are currently in the intersection of Barrie Street and Okill Street completing a water main connection. On Friday, May 29 there will be a one-day closure of the intersection of Barrie and Okill, at which time vehicle traffic will not be able to pass through the intersection. Barrie Street will remain open to local traffic, with limited on-street parking. The lower portion of Barrie Street will remain accessible from King Street. This closure is necessary to allow the completion of the water main, and is being done to avoid a continued week (five days) of work in the intersection. Contractor staff will be stationed on Barrie Street to help direct traffic and pedestrians.
  • Beginning Monday June 1, crews will begin excavation work on Stuart Street at George Street. At this time Stuart Street will be closed to through traffic between Arch Street and Lower University Avenue, with local vehicle access allowed. Excavation will progress easterly towards Arch Street. George Street will be accessible to vehicles via Stuart Street eastbound.
  • Also beginning Monday, June 1, Kingston Transit will be running detours for buses that travel Stuart Street. A full list of detours and stop locations can be found on the City of Kingston website: https://www.cityofkingston.ca/residents/transit/service-alerts
  • Okill Street will remain open to two-way traffic for the short term future. Two-way traffic is being maintained to facilitate access to lower George Street and parking on Okill Street.
