Roadwork construction update: Sept. 2

  • Stuart Street between Barrie Street and Lower University Avenue will be closed to through traffic starting Tuesday, September 2 as the contractor will be excavating in the intersection of George Street and Stuart Street. Vehicles needing to access Queen’s and KGH buildings in this area of Stuart Street will still be able to do so, but will not be able to travel through the intersection of George and Stuart and will need to exit the same way they entered. Pedestrian access on Stuart Street and George Street will be maintained throughout.
  • The Queen's Shuttle route will change during the week of September 2 when the roadwork construction project moves into the intersection of Stuart Street and George Street.  Stops 1 and 2 will not be affected but Stops 3 and 4 will be eliminated during this period only.  The shuttle will turn right on Lower University Avenue and travel back to West Campus via King Street. Questions about the Queen's Shuttle route change should be directed to Donna Stover, Parking Manager, at extension 77589.
  • The contractor will have personnel on site during the closure of Stuart Street to assist patrons of KGH and Queen’s University in navigating the construction site. Signage will also be erected to help direct both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
  • The GIDRU and Museum of Health Care parking lots will be accessible via O’Kill Street, which is currently a two-way.
  • Kingston Transit will be detouring their buses around Stuart Street, with some bus stops being removed and other being relocated. A full list of their route changes can be found on their website: https://www.cityofkingston.ca/residents/transit/service-alerts
  • A separate contractor is working on the Cross of Sacrifice in the park at the foot of George Street. Work on the Cross of Sacrifice should be completed by mid-September.
