Steam shutdown for JDUC on Oct. 26

A steam shutdown is scheduled for the John Deutsch University Centre (JDUC) on Thursday, Oct. 26 between 7 am and 3:30 pm to permit contractors to complete the final tie-in of the steam infrastructure for Queen’s Innovation and Wellness Centre and to startup the new steam line.

This shutdown will affect the entire building, including Grad Residence, and will result in there being no new steam production for building heat, hot water and other steam-reliant systems. There will be a small reserve of hot water for Grad Residence and the public areas of the original building at the start of the day; however, once this reserve is depleted, there will be no hot water available for occupants in these areas until the steam is restored at 3:30 pm.

Electric domestic hot water tanks will supply hot water to the Campus Dentist, Luce Salon, commercial kitchens and Queen’s Pub while the shutdown is in progress. The commercial kitchens and Queen’s Pub should monitor hot water consumption throughout the day to ensure that they do not drain the supply in the electric hot water tanks dedicated to their respective units.
