[cover photo for summer 2014 QAR]The summer issue of the Queen’s Alumni Review is now available across campus as well as online. The cover story, “A dream realized,” unveils the new Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts as a hub for student learning and interdepartmental collaboration. Online stories complementing the cover story review named and dedicated spaces in the Isabel, and look back at Film House, former home to the Department of Film and Media Studies.

Alumni interviewed in the issue include musician, conductor and Google Glass tester Cynthia Johnston Turner (Mus’85, Ed’86), and Troy McAllister (Artsci/PHE’03), an inspirational high school teacher and football coach. In his column, Principal Daniel Woolf discusses the challenges and rewards of teaching. Campus stories include a look at the unique Artist in Community Education in the Faculty of Education and the new classrooms in Ellis Hall. We celebrate some notable milestones at Queen’s, including the 20th anniversary of The Empress, (Queen’s only bilingual student newspaper) and the 30th anniversary of CMC Microsystems, an innovator of micro-nano technology in Canada.

This issue marks the editorial debut of Andrea Gunn, MPA’07. Andrea, the former editor of the Keeping in Touch section of the magazine, takes over from longtime editor Ken Cuthbertson (Artsci’74, Law’83), who retired from the Review earlier this year.
