Dr. Katherine McKittrick inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Congratulations to Dr. Katherine McKittrick (GNDS/Cross-appointed to GPPL) who has been inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences as an International Honorary Member in Class III, Social Sciences. The American Academy of Arts & Sciences was founded in 1780 by John Adams, John Hancock, and others who believed the new republic should honor exceptionally accomplished individuals and engage them in advancing the public good.

Claudia Hirtenfelder article in La Presse about international student recruitment and COVID-19

Congratulations to Ph.D. candidate Claudia Hirtenfelder who published an article in La Presse (translated by Sylvie St-Jacques) commenting on Canada’s strategies to recruit more international students but failing to include them in their Covid-19 emergency plans. You can read it here.

David Gordon announces first copies of their new book Planning Canadian Communities: An introduction to the Principles, Practices and Participants in the 21st Century

Congratulations to Professor David Gordon who announced that the first copies of their book Planning Canadian Communities: An introduction to the Principles, Practices and Participants in the 21st Century (Nelson) arrived last week with glorious colour images throughout. Professor Pamela Shaw, Director of the community planning program at Vancouver Island University, joins the authorial team, following the passing of  Professor Emeritus Gerald Hodge in December 2017.

GPPL doctoral candidate Claudia Hirtenfelder wins SGPS Student Contribution Award

Congratulations to GPPL doctoral candidate Claudia Hirtenfelder who has won the 2019-2020 SGPS Student Contribution Award after being nominated by her peers for the award. They highlighted her contribution to the university through her advocacy for international students, her leadership with the Scholarship Beyond Boundaries Conference, and her podcast Beyond Canada: International Thought and Scholarship which highlights the international scholarship of graduate students.  Well done Claudia!
