Remembering Dr. Kurt Kyser


A service will be held in Grant Hall,

Professor T. Kurt Kyser, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and pioneering geochemist, died while teaching in Bermuda on August 29, 2017.

Professor Kyser joined the Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering at Queen’s University in 1995.  He created and directed one of the leading geochemistry laboratories in North America, the Queen’s Facility for Isotope Research.  Dr. Kyser was a world-renowned researcher whose creativity and gift for solving scientific problems produced more than 500 peer-reviewed papers, books

Dr. Heather Jamieson. Top Mineralogist. Peacock Medal. Faculty in the News.Dr. Heather Jamieson has been featured in both the Kingston Whig Standard and the Queen's Gazette in relation to her receiving the Peacock Medal from the Mineralogical Association of Canada (MAC).

The Whig refers to Heather as "...the leading environmental mineralogist in the world in the study of trace elements at abandoned or active mine sites."

Grad Students Receive Student Research Grants

Congratulations to Graduate students Svieda Ma, Renaud Soucy La Roche, and Mark Ahenda for each receiving a 2017 Student Research Grant from the Geological Society of America (GSA).

Grad Student Wins CGU Best Student Paper in Geodesy Award

Congratulations to MASc student, Katie Irwin on receiving the Canadian Geophysical Union (CGU) Best Student Paper in Geodesy Award. Katie received the award for her research on 'Comparing Quad-Pol RADARSAT-2 and Single-Pol TerraSAR-X Data for Surface Water Monitoring' by Katie Irwin, Alexander Braun and Georgia Fotopoulos.

Calgary Geoconvention Reunion 2017

The Geology Council will once again be organizing the Geoconvention Pub night in Calgary. This event is an opportunity for alumni to reconnect with other Geology graduates, and make new acquaintances. Ione Taylor and Marilyn Redmond with the new Master of Earth and Energy Resources Leadership program will be in attendance. Current Queen's geology students are also encouraged to attend.
