Student Receives OSSP Award from EGU

Congratulations to PHD student, David Bonneau, who was awarded the Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSSP) from the European Geosciences Union (EGU). The poster/PICO is titled: "The Use of Terrestrial Laser Scanning for the Characterization of Debris Accumulation Patterns in the White Canyon, British Columbia (Bonneau, D. A.; Hutchinson, D. J.; McDougall, S.)".

Dr. Price Awarded Willet G. Miller Medal from Royal Society of Canada

Dr. Diederichs Wins First Year Instructor Teaching Award

Congratulations to Dr. Mark Diederichs, who was chosen by the Engineering Class of 2021 as the recipient of the Engineering and Applied Science First Year Instructor Teaching Award (Fall Term). The award is given each year to the instructors of first year Engineering and Applied Science courses who, in the opinion of the students, contributed most to creating a good teaching and learning environment in the classroom.

Recent Graduate Receives Best Thesis Award - ARMA

Congratulations to recent MSc graduate, Andrew Leriche, who received the best thesis award from the American Rock Mechanics Association (ARMA).

Andrew received the award for his thesis titled, "Stress Estimation From Borehole Scans For Prediction Of Excavation Overbreak In Brittle Rock". Andrew was co-supervised by Dr. Kalenchuk of MDEng and Dr. Mark Deiderichs of Queen's University

Steve Rose, In Memoriam

Shortly before 4:00pm on Friday, June 29th, Steven Vincent Rose passed peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and children.

Steve was a loving husband, father, son, brother, mentor, and friend to many throughout his life. Steve grew up as a frequent traveler, with his father’s work taking the Rose family through Belgium, France, South Africa, and England before Steve spent his Grade 13 studying (and playing semi-professional rugby) in Switzerland.
