Katherine McKittrick receives American Association of Geographers' Award for Anti-Racism Research and Practice

The Rose Award was created to honor Harold M. Rose, who was a pioneer in conducting research on the condition faced by African Americans. The award honors geographers who have a demonstrated record of this type of research and active contributions to society, and is awarded to individuals who have served to advance the discipline through their research, and who have also had an impact on anti-racist practice.

The Department of Gender Studies at Queen’s University recognizes that we are situated on the territory of the Anishinaabek and Haudenosaunee Peoples who are the caretakers of this land. We also acknowledge that this land is significant to Indigenous peoples’ practices and spiritualities. Living in this territory, we hold responsibilities to the people, creatures, lands and waters of this region and seek to uphold our treaty obligations.
