Research interests: critical race theory, ethnography, gender studies, masculinity/femininity, diasporic/colonial histories, arts, popular culture, visual culture, politics of media and representation, social media, colonization/decolonization, postcolonial theory, advocacy, and psychoanalysis.

Seemil has completed her BA in Socio-cultural Anthropology and Media Studies at the University of Toronto, and has worked within government and non-profit organizations to contribute to research and social efforts towards equity, diversity, and anti-racism. Seemil's academic interest in issues of race, gender, and representation has led her to pursue her MA in Gender Studies at Queen's University.
