About

I am a sixth-year PhD candidate focusing on late Byzantine religious and intellectual history under the supervision of Dr. Richard Greenfield.  My dissertation exams the responses of Demetrios Kydones to the ratification of Gregory Palamas’ Hesychast dogmas in the fourteenth century, and the former’s expressions of existential anxiety in the context of this controversy.  My other research interests include medieval religious history more generally, especially the instrumentalization of reason and violence within and between religious communities, eastern Christian iconography and hymnology, and certain expressions of religious heresy in the early modern and modern periods, especially deism, panentheism, and naturalism.
