Jeffrey Brison wins Award for Excellence in Graduate Student Supervision

Congratulations to Dr. Jeffrey Brison, who has received the 2022 Award for Excellence in Graduate Student Supervision (AEGSS) from the School of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs. This award recognizes graduate supervisors who demonstrate outstanding excellence in advising, monitoring, and mentoring graduate students and who inspire students to push scholarly boundaries and pursue their career and academic goals.

A group of his current and former graduate students nominated Dr. Brison on the basis of his excellent mentorship and multifaceted engagement with graduate students. The nomination letters speak to his compassion, enthusiasm, and intellectual generosity, as well as the effort he puts into nurturing these interpersonal relationships through teaching, supervision, and professional development opportunities.

In Dr. Brison's award notification letter, Fahim Quadir, Vice-Provost and Dean of SGSPA, wrote that Dr. Brison's efforts "stand out as exemplary of the value strong supervision can play in the lives of our students. In reading through [the] nomination file, I was struck by the accounts shared by [Dr. Brison's] current and past students about [his] outstanding mentorship. The appreciation that many of [his] past students have for [his] extraordinary support to their academic and professional development clearly demonstrates [his] commitment to their success."

During his time at Queen's, Dr. Brison has formally supervised an impressive total of 45 students across the departments of History, Art History, and Education and in the Cultural Studies Program, where he currently serves as co-director.

The Award for Excellence in Graduate Student Supervision will be presented at Spring Convocation this June.
