I am currently working under Dr. Richard Greenfield’s supervision as a doctoral student. At present the primary objective of my doctoral research project is to examine aspects of the social and religious attitudes toward the occult in the Byzantine Empire after 1261. I have chosen to explore this field because I strongly believe that it is closely related to the broader issue of how individuals and groups perceived and identified themselves in Byzantium. The occult, although treated with suspicion in Byzantium, still represented the two most essential elements of Byzantine identity: Christian religion and classical tradition.
