Hanna MacKechnie


Dr. Johan (Hanna) MacKechnie is both a medieval historian and a Mediterranean studies scholar. Her work focuses on interactions between Muslims, Christians, and Jews in pre-modern Iberia and relations between medieval Europeans and the world around them. Dr. MacKechnie has taught widely in the fields of Classics, medieval and early modern history, Middle Eastern studies, political science, and religious studies. She is currently working on her first book on migration and movement after the Black Death Plague.

During the 2021-2022 academic year, Dr. MacKechnie will be teaching History 226: The Later Middle Ages and History 400: Inquisitions in Global History.
