Queen’s Historians Receive $210,000 Veterans Affairs Canada Grant

On International Women’s Day, Kingston MP Mark Gerretsen recognized the award of a $210, 000 five-year Veterans Affairs Canada research grant from its Veteran and Family Well-Being Fund to Queen’s University in collaboration with Servicewomen’s Salute Canada (SWS) (https://www.facebook.com/search/posts/?q=servicewomens%20salute&epa=SERP_TAB) to build a web portal supporting servicewomen leaving the Canadian Armed Forces and veteran servicewomen living in Canadian communities. The principal investigator for the project is Allan English and other members of the department that are working with him on this project are Claire Cookson-Hills (PhD 2013), Sonia Dussault (PhD Candidate), and Charlotte Duval-L’Antoine (MA Candidate). Our partner, SWS, is led by Lieutenant-Commander (retired) Rosemary Park. The goal of this project is to create a welcoming, interactive, “one stop” online site linking key information and networking resources representing Canadian servicewomen's military service experience, their transition requirements, and their priorities as veterans living in civilian communities.
