About

As I was writing my English lit thesis on Elizabeth Barrett Browning's Aurora Leigh, I realized that my interest in the historical context of the works of literature I was reading far outweighed my interest in the works of literature themselves. Thus, I made the decision to take two more years to complete a History Major with honours. I became very interested in how people groups made sense of contemporary conflicts. My history thesis focused on how New Brunswick papers portrayed the actions and nature of the British and American sides of the War of 1812. At Queen's, working with Dr. Karen Dubinsky and Dr. Jeff Brison, I plan to study the reaction to Canadian newspapers to the Gouzenko Affair, with special attention to transnational influences, regional differences, and the interplay of published knowledge and public opinion.
