Under the guidance of Dr. Greenfield, I hope to explore the evolution of religious rituals in Byzantine Christianity. My MA project focused on the development of Christian commemorative rites. In the PhD, I hope to continue to pursue my interest in ritual’s balancing between orthodoxy and popular desire into the Byzantine Era. My project will attempt to shed light on the ways that lived religion adapted to changing environments. I am particularly interested in exchanges between religious and magical thinking in popular practice.
