Luke Van Vuuren

MA Candidate
The Crusading Era

Bachelor of Arts, Tyndale University, 2019

I entered Tyndale University after a brief stint studying construction at Algonquin College. I entered university studying Business, but after experiencing my first university-level history course, I quickly realized where my passion really was. I added Theology as a second major in lieu of an Honours because I strongly believe that religion is one of the strongest influencers of history.

My current historical interests explore various aspects of the Crusading Era, specifically the Byzantine Empire’s involvement in the Crusades and the impact the Second Crusade had on the future of crusading. Under Dr. Richard Greenfield, I will explore the influences which caused the Byzantines to both help and hinder the Crusades.

When I am not studying the Crusades, I enjoy studying the British Empire, particularly the Boer War and everyone’s favourite Brit, Sir Winston Churchill.
