Frequently Asked Questions - Education

As an employee of the University, what are the mandatory trainings provided by the Human Rights and Equity Office?
There are multiple mandatory training depending on your role with the University. To see all mandatory training visit our Education page and view the mandatory training tab.
What trainings are required to complete the AODA Suite?
There are four trainings in the AODA Suite.  They are: 
  1. Accessible Customer Service
  2. Access Forward
  3. Human Rights 101
  4. Accessible Instruction for Educators.  Only Educators are required to complete Accessible Instruction for Educators. (NOTE: There are multiple modules within each training)
I’ve only received one email confirmation for my training and my instructor/department is asking for multiple email confirmations.
You receive an email confirmation after each training is complete.  To confirm which trainings are required and which training you have completed you can visit the Training Portal.
I’ve taken Showing up for Anti-Racism and Inclusion training is that equivalent to Employment Equity Training for Hiring Committees?
No, Showing up for Anti-Racism and Inclusion training is mandatory training for Senior Administrators, grade 10 and above.  Employment Equity training is training for members of hiring committees.
I’ve taken the Staff Hiring Training and the Staff Employment Equity Representative training.  Do I need to take the Faculty Employment Equity trainings to sit on an Appointments/RTPC?
Yes, this training is specific to Article 24.2.1 of the Collective Agreement between Queen’s University Faculty Association and Queen’s University Kingston.
I’ve taken the Appointments/RTPC training and the Employment Equity Representative training.  Do I need to take the Staff Employment Equity training to sit on a Staff hiring committee?
No, the employment equity principles are the same for the Faculty and Staff employment equity sessions. However, there are additional material introduced in the staff employment equity sessions and we do encourage members on staff hiring committees to take the Staff Hiring training.
Can you tell me what training I have completed?
You can find the answer to this question by accessing the Training Portal
How do I get a copy of my training email confirmation?
Log into the Training Portal and then click on each of the trainings you have completed. You can then hit “Email Certificate” and you will get a confirmation email sent to you.
How do I request customized training?
You can request customized training by completing our Training Request form.
I don’t have any contact with the public in the work I do at Queen’s. Am I still required to do the AODA Suite of trainings?
Yes, “interacting and communicating with the public” involves not only face to face interaction. It also includes the many other everyday activities: email, telephone etc.
Do students need to have employment equity training in order to sit on a faculty hiring committee?
While all committee members are required to have employment equity training, Article 24.2.1 of the Collective Agreement between Queen’s University Faculty Association and Queen’s University Kingston, states that students are not required to have employment equity training. We do however, encourage and welcome students to attend employment equity training.
