Events & Recognition

Throughout the year, Human Resources hosts and supports events to promote and celebrate initiatives at Queen’s University.  Click on an event of interest below for further details.


Celebration of Service

Human Resources and the Principal’s office partner annually to host a dinner and ceremony celebrating faculty and staff who have given 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 years of service to the university.  A certificate is presented to each employee reflecting Queen’s appreciation for many dedicated years of service.  A pin is also given with thanks for the continued contribution to Queen’s mission and successes, year after year.

Certificate and Leadership Program Graduation

Queen’s employees have many opportunities to develop the skills and knowledge that they need to advance in their careers and also to attain a positive work-life balance. Human Resources offers certificate and leadership programs to facilitate a wide range of professional development opportunities for employees to enhance their competencies and to build networks with fellow staff members across the university.


HR Summit

The HR Summit is an annual event that launched in 2016 designed for Managers from Queen’s University.  The purpose of the event is to further HR’s ongoing commitment to provide continuing education and to equip managers with the tools they need to succeed in their roles.  This in turn helps to improve the overall performance of the organization.

Principal's Holiday Reception

The Principal’s Office and Human Resources collaborate annually to host the Principal’s Holiday Reception.  This event is held on Staff Appreciation Day and gives Queen’s staff and faculty the opportunity to gather together as a community and visit with colleagues.   Food and monetary donations are collected during the event to support the AMS Food Bank.

Special Recognition for Staff Awards

Human Resources and the Principal’s office partner annually to present the Queen’s Special Recognition for Staff Awards during the Principal’s Holiday Reception.  These awards recognize staff members who make outstanding contributions, both directly and indirectly, to the learning and working environment at Queen’s University.  Award winners are nominated by their colleagues as either individuals or as a team.

Take Our Kids to Work Day

Human Resources supports the Take Our Kids to Work Day, which is a national program organized by “The Learning Partnership” where Grade 9 students have the opportunity to job shadow their parent/guardian or sponsor for the day. This program highlights the importance of education, skills development, and training while giving Grade 9 students the opportunity to experience the world of work and the variety of career opportunities available to them.

Thrive Week

The Thrive initiative was developed to assist in understanding the value and potential benefits of a collaborative community based approach to mental health promotion on campus.  We hope to take away key strategies, ideas and tools for effectively promoting positive mental health to a variety of post-secondary audiences and ultimately see Thrive as not only a week long series of events but as a mindset that can promote learning, change, resiliency and a more positive campus culture.

Thrive is a week-long series of events focused on building positive mental health for Queen's students, faculty, and staff. This initiative is hosted within the Queen's community to help promote positive mental health and to help reduce the stigma that is still related to mental health.

Time of year: November
