SpreadInnovation Challenge

Summer plans falling through? Worried about the future? Manage your worries and do something purposeful with your summer.

Build a solution to tackle one of the pressing challenges facing our healthcare systems, livelihoods, economies, and communities due to COVID-19.

Work in a team to build a solution and receive up to a $5000 stipend, 100+ days of free online training, mentorship and support from the Queen's Innovation Centre Summer Initiative (QICSI) program, along with funding milestones to implement your solution.

The SpreadInnovation challenge stream of QICSI will help students and community members turn their idea, technology, or inspiration into a solution that addresses the various challenges related to COVID-19. The program will guide participants' journey in a tiered program that unlocks opportunities and resources as you and your team demonstrate your commitment and make progress in building your solution. Any form of solution is welcome - project, initiative, campaign, policy innovation, not-for-profit, for-profit etc. No equity is taken should you launch a business.

Spread Innovation Challenge Themes

The COVID-19 crisis has drastic physical, mental, economic, and social impacts on individuals and communities. We are looking for teams who want develop solutions for the following challenge themes:

  • supporting the healthcare system
  • supporting those on the front-lines providing essential services
  • protecting vulnerable populations
  • helping workers and businesses that are impacted
  • supporting community cohesion
  • helping plan for the aftermath

How to Apply

  1. Find a team (minimum three, maximum five) that is diverse as possible. Ideally you would have people interested in business, technology, and arts or humanities. We believe different perspectives create strong teams. Join our Slack community to connect with potential co-founders.
  2. Determine your availability. Full-time participants will attend the full scheduled program from May 11 - August 28, 2020, including a two week bootcamp and weekly online training sessions, have access to mentors, and will be eligible for up to a $5000 stipend to cover personal expenses. Part-time participants will attend as much of the bootcamp as possible and then can continue to work on their innovation at their own pace while accessing weekly online training sessions on-demand. We recommend that teams have the same availability.
  3. Select the challenge theme that is most interesting to you and your team.
  4. Apply to the program using our application form.

The program begins May 11, 2020 with a full time online bootcamp from May 11-24, 2020 and a bootcamp weekend from May 23-24, 2020.

Applications for the full-time stream are closed. Apply by May 6, 2020 at 12PM EST for part-time stream if you want to participate in bootcamp!
