DDQIC Regional Pitch Competition

Do you need funding to advance your startup idea? 

Apply now for a chance to compete alongside other high-potential startups for up to $30,000 at Kingston's largest pitch competition! Startups that successfully make it through the application review and first round of pitches will have an opportunity to pitch to a panel of esteemed judges to gain valuable feedback on their business model while getting a chance to win significant funding and support to help their company. The pool of funding available in the Dunin-Deshpande Summer Pitch Competition is approximately $100,000 and is awarded at the discretion of the judges.

Eligibility

  • This competition is open to ventures at Queen's and in the Kingston region. Applicants must be based in the Kingston region but do NOT have to be associated with Queen's University. In the adjudication process, the impact of the venture on the Kingston region will be taken into consideration for all applicants.
  • Ventures who have been funded less than $10,000 (grants, pitch prizes, loans, equity) are eligible to apply to compete in the Dunin-Deshpande Summer Pitch Competition.

The information in the Business Model Canvas/Social Business Model Canvas has been integrated into the application form. All applicants are expected to review the following resources that outline how to effectively complete the Business Model Canvas/Social Business Model Canvas:

Application and Important Dates

The application process will happen in four stages:

1) Complete the relevant Application Form below by July 25th 2019 at noon. If you have a social enterprise or non-profit, please submit your application via the “Social Business Model Application Form”. All other applicants can submit via the “Business Model Canvas Application Form” link. The DDQIC team will review all applications and notify successful applicants by the end of day on Friday, July 26th. 

2) First Round Pitch on August 1st 2019Preliminary pitches will take place in front of the DDQIC team and a panel of Global Network judges. Details about pitch time will be confirmed following the successful completion of the application process. All pitches will take place in the Event Commons (Room 103) in Mitchell Hall on Queen's University main campus in Kingston. All founders/co-founders are expected to be present for the pitch.

3) Mandatory Pitch Training with Anil Dilawri on August 7th 2019Ventures that are successful in the first round of pitches have the benefit of joining the Queen's Innovation Centre Summer Initiative (QICSI) cohort for professional pitch coaching on Wednesday, August 7th. Anil Dilawri is Managing Director of Save it like Sully – a professional presentation training and coaching company in Ottawa. 

4) Final Pitch Competition on August 22nd 2019All finalists will compete at the 2019 Dunin-Deshpande Summer Pitch Competition for a chance to win from a pool of up to $100,000 in seed funding! The final pitch competition will take place in the Atrium of Mitchell Hall on Queen's University Main Campus. 

The Regional Pitch Competition Series is made up of three pitch competitions per year in the fall, winter, and summer. The next opportunity to pitch in the series will be in the Fall 2019 Regional Pitch Competition (November 2019).
