Program Assistant for Semester in Shanghai

Position: Program Assistant, Semester in Shanghai Fall 2017, Faculty of Arts and Science

Location: Shanghai, China

Responsibilities: The Program Assistant's primary responsibility will be to act as a front-line adviser to Queen's students studying at Fudan University in Shanghai during the Fall semester of 2017. The Program Assistant will help with orientation activities for newly arrived Queen's students, act as an adviser to students and assistant grader in the core Social Research course (transferred to participants' transcripts as LLCU 432), provide administrative support to the Program Coordinator (Professor Emily Hill) and occasionally to other Queen's staff, both in Kingston and Shanghai, and maintain regular office hours throughout the office term. A key aspect of this position is to provide timely first-stage help and support to Queen's students regarding both non-academic and academic issues. When the semester ends, the Program Assistant is expected to submit a short report on the Semester in Shanghai program for review by program administrators at Queen's. The Semester in Shanghai program runs for 15 weeks, from September 1 to December 15, 2017, at Fudan University in Shanghai, China. For information about the program, please visit

Time commitment: This position requires a minimum availability of 2 days/week from late August to mid-December 2017.

  • A four-year Bachelor's degree

  • Cross-cultural sensitivity, interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with Fudan University faculty, staff and students


  • Chinese language skills
  • Previous experience living in Shanghai
  • Outstanding leadership skills
  • Familiarity with the Semester in Shanghai program
  • Experience in event planning and logistics

Salary: The Programs Assistant will receive a salary of $4000, plus accommodation and international travel costs.
