SharePoint Online FAQ

Q. What is the Modern experience in SharePoint?
Modern SharePoint is a whole new user experience. It not only has a new look, but also provides a user friendly platform for creating pages, document libraries, and lists. It is also designed from the ground up to work on mobile devices, and it addresses dozens of nagging usability issues. Q. How do I find my SharePoint Online site URL?

There are a variety of ways to get to you SharePoint site from Office 365 applications and services. If you need to find the SharePoint URL for a site, you can use the instruction sets below to help navigate to your SharePoint site home page from common applications and services connected to Office 365.
To view screen captures for any instruction sets, click the "+" button next to the service or application title.

Outlook on the web
  1. In Outlook on the web, access your Outlook group by selecting it from the list of Groups.
  2. From the top menu, click the more button (...).
  3. Select Site to access the SharePoint site connected to the group.
  4. From the Site home page, copy the URL from the address bar of the browser.

Outlook desktop client (Windows)
  1. In the Outlook desktop client, access your Outlook group by selecting it from the list of Groups.
  2. Select the Files button from the ribbon.
  3. Sign-in to Queen's Office 365 using your Queen's email (NetID@queensu.ca)
  4. Select Home from the navigation menu.
  5. From the site home page, copy the URL from the address bar of the browser.

Microsoft Planner
  1. From Microsoft Planner, select the plan associated with the group.
  2. Select More.
  3. Select Sites.
  4. From the site home page, copy the URL from the address bar of your browser.

Microsoft Teams
  1. From Microsoft Teams, select the team from your list of Teams
  2. From any channel within the Team (e.g. General), select Files tab.
  3. From the Files area, select Open in SharePoint.
  4. Select Home from the navigation menu.
  5. From the site home page, copy the URL from the address bar of your browser.

SharePoint Online
  1. From SharePoint, select the group associated with the site from the list of sites you are Following (if applicable), Recent or Frequent.
  2. From the site home page, copy the URL from the address bar of your browser.

Yammer
  1. From Yammer, select the group from the list of Groups.
  2. From Office 365 Resources, select SharePoint Site.
  3. From the site home page, copy the URL from the address bar of your browser.

Q. How do I check my storage quota?

The following applies to checking the storage quota on a SharePoint Team Site. Only site administrator's can check the storage quota.

Option 1

  1. In your site, select Site Contents from Settings menu(gear icon).
  2. From Site Contents, select Site Settings.
  3. On the Site Settings page, select Storage Metrics under Site Collection Administration.
    • The site storage quota will appear in the top right corner of the Storage Metrics page, along with a breakdown of data usage.

Option 2

  1. Add /_layouts/15/storman.aspx to the base URL of the site
    • Example: If /_layouts/15/storman.aspx is added to the end of the base URL of the site at https://queensuca.sharepoint.com/teams/GROUP-Name, the URL to access Storage Metrics is https://queensuca.sharepoint.com/teams/GROUP-Name/_layouts/15/storman.aspx
    • The site storage quota will appear in the top right corner of the Storage Metrics page, along with a breakdown of data usage.
  2. Go to the URL (e.g. https://queensuca.sharepoint.com/teams/GROUP-Name/_layouts/15/storman.aspx) in a browser (you may be prompted to sign in to SharePoint)
    • The site storage quota will appear in the top right corner of the Storage Metrics page, along with a breakdown of data usage.
Files in your Recycle Bin count toward your storage quota. To free up that space, you must empty the Recycle Bin. Refer to: Delete items or empty the Recycle Bin of a SharePoint site
