How to Synchronize your new NetID password to your AD joined computer

If you log into your computer with your NetID and password, it means that your computer authenticates against the Queen’s domain upon login.  After changing your NetID Password, the computer login password will be out of sync with your new NetID password.  You will however be able to log into your computer with the last working password that you had previously logged into the computer with.

Pick the connection you currently have and than follow the bulleted steps to sync your password to your computer.

  1. If you are currently logged into your computer, connected on the Queen’s campus or are currently connected through an existing VPN connection
    • Lock the Computer
      • Press the "Ctl-Alt-Del" keys.
      • Select "Lock This Computer."
    • Press the "Ctl-Alt-Del" again.
    • Log back into the computer with your new NetID password.
    • Your computer login will now be synced to your new NetID Password
       
  2. If you are currently logged into your computer, have changed your password and are not on campus and are not currently connected to VPN
    • Sign into the VPN client using your new NetID password.
    • Lock the Computer
      • Press the "Ctl-Alt-Del" keys.
      • Select "Lock This Computer."
    • Press the "Ctl-Alt-Del" again.
    • Log back into the computer with your new NetID password.
       
  3. If you are not currently logged into your computer and had changed your password earlier or elsewhere
    • Sign into your computer with your previous NetID password.
    • Sign into the VPN client using your new NetID password.
    • Lock the Computer
      • Press the "Ctl-Alt-Del" keys.
      • Select "Lock This Computer."
    • Press the "Ctl-Alt-Del" again.
    • Log back into the computer with your new NetID password.
