Service Info

Labster provides fully interactive virtual lab simulations, based on mathematical algorithms that support open-ended investigations. These investigations incorporate gamification elements such as an immersive 3D universe, storytelling and a scoring system, which stimulates students’ natural curiosity and highlights the connection between science and the real world. In a virtual lab, students work through real-life case stories, interact with lab equipment, perform experiments, and learn with theory and quiz questions.

Labster also features a full integration with onQ, the Queen's Learning Management System (LMS), allowing instructors and students to access the Labster platform from directly within an onQ course, while students' grades in Labster are seamlessly synced to the onQ Gradebook.

For more information about the simulations offered by Labster, consult their Virtual Lab Simulation page.

  • Improves student retention and outcomes
  • Fun and engaging 3D animations
  • Easy tracking of progress and feedback
  • Unlimited access to instrumentation

Who Can Have It?

  • Labster is available to any faculty member with an onQ course. However, as a virtual lab simulation, Labster will be mostly relevant to faculty members with courses in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Physics, and Medicine.

Getting Started

Are There Any Costs?

  • There are no costs for using the service.

How Do I Get It?

  • As Queen's has procured a limited number of licenses for the 2020-2021 academic year, we kindly ask that you request access to Labster via the IT Services Incident Form , making sure to include the following information:

    • Number of licenses requested (based on 1 license per student enrolled in the course)

Terminating the Service

What if I Leave Queen's?

  • As your access to Labster is contingent on your access to onQ, please see the Service Termination Dates page for details on when your access to onQ will be discontinued following your departure from Queen's.

  • The targeted availability of this service is twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week (24x7).
  • Users of the service should expect occasional but infrequent service interruptions or slowdowns, both planned and unplanned.
