Telephone and Voice Mail FAQ

Q. How do I check my voice mail messages from home?

* Dial 613-533-6520

* Enter your 5 digit mailbox number

* Press #

* Enter your password

* Press #

Q. I have no dial tone.

* Try unplugging and plugging the phone back in (from the back of the phone)

* Check to see that the phone is in the correct jack and plugged in tightly.

* Check to see that the line cord or handset cord has not accidentally been unplugged

Q. The top features on my phone have stopped working.

This is a problem that is limited to 9 button phones. If you have one, and this occurs, try unplugging and plugging the phone back in. This will reset it.

Q. I went to the Nortel website and it says our voicemail has lots of new features. When can I start to use them?

No new features will be introduced at this time.  Potential new features will be examined for cost, scalability and potential benefits to the Queen's community.

Q. I'm not being notified when I have a message.
  1. Listen to all messages in your mailbox so there are no 'new' messages.
  2. Send yourself a message using "express messaging".
  3. Wait a few moments for the message indicator light to light up. If the notification light isn't turned on, please contact the ITSC at 36666.
Q. What is the shortcut to call the hospitals?
  • Kingston General Hospital: Dial 81 + 4 digit KGH number
  • Hotel Dieu Hospital: Dial 82 + 4 digit HDH number
Q. I am away from the office, how do I record a temporary greeting?
  • Dial 613-533-6520
  • Enter your 5 digit mailbox number

  • Press 5 to record a temporary greeting

  • To set an expiry date, press 9 and follow prompts
Q. My directory listing is incorrect, who do I contact?

Change online directory Email address:

Students - Changes can be made through SOLUS

Faculty/Staff - Changes can be made using the Email Directory Correction Form

Online directory Telephone change Faculty/Staff:  To change a phone number in the online directory you must contact your ITAdmin Rep.

Online directory Department change Faculty/Staff:  If you change departments and the listing continues to show the old one, you should contact Human Resources at 32070 to make sure your current appointment is correct.
