COVID-19 - Updates and resources for researchers, entrepreneurs, startups and SMEs

Leveraging Queen's resources and critical funding from the government of Canada though FedDev Ontario, the Queen’s Partnerships and Innovation (QPI) team, the Queen’s Business Law Clinic (QBLC), Launch Lab, and St. Lawrence College (SLC) are offering several programs and services to help startups grow. Programs and services are for startups in Eastern Ontario that are advancing a science-based, technology-based, or software-based solution.

Programs Queen's Startup Runway Incubation program

Located in the Seaway Coworking building at 310 Bagot Street in Kingston, Ontario, the Queen's Startup Runway is a new physical incubation program, for entrepreneurs, startups, and small companies developing new technologies, that includes co-location with the QPI team, Launch Lab, the Southeastern Ontario Angel Network, and St. Lawrence College. The Startup Runway provides participants with access to shared workspaces, meeting rooms, event spaces, numerous resources via the Queen's Startup Runway Slack community and various amenities and services.

Wings Acceleration program for pre-revenue startups

The Wings program provides early stage founders with tools and guidance to help them assess the feasibility of their business idea, validate their proposed value proposition, and begin the development of a viable business model.

Growth Acceleration program for post-revenue startups and SMEs poised to grow

The QPI team’s inaugural 3-month acceleration program for post revenue startups and SMEs poised to grow will commence on March 24, 2020.

Amplify Mentorship program for post-revenue startups and SMEs poised to grow

Launch Lab’s 6-month Amplify program accelerates and scales innovative Eastern Ontario companies selling into both business-to-business (B2B) or business-to-consumer (B2C) markets regionally, nationally or internationally.

Services Intellectual property services

The QPI team helps startups develop and implement an intellectual or strengthen an intellectual property and commercialization strategy.

Legal services

The Queen's Business Law Clinic (QBLC) provides legal services, via its Director and Queen’s Law students, to organizations and entrepreneurs in southeastern Ontario who would otherwise have difficulty affording legal counsel. The QBLC helps startups establish shareholder agreements, confidentiality agreements, employment agreements, and other legal documents as appropriate that provide a company with a solid foundation.

Mentorship services

The QPI team, Launch Lab Entrepreneurs in Residence (EIRs), the Executive Director of the Southeastern Ontario Angel Network (SOAN), as well as staff and students from St. Lawrence College (SLC), are available to provide mentorship and coaching to eligible startups, including guidance and feedback related to product and market strategies, investment readiness and attraction, and the preparation of presentations.

Sales coaching services

The QPI team has contracted with Les Magyar of Infinity Sales Solutions (ISS) to provide sales coaching workshops and 1:1 mentoring sessions to our startups. ISS is a boutique sales coaching and training firm specializing in helping startups and businesses with an emphasis on technology.

Marketing services

SPARK is a creative communications agency driven by students and industry professionals of St. Lawrence College. With a passion and energy to create big things, SPARK works with businesses in the community to deliver industry standard, effective solutions to marketing challenges. The many partners in the Kingston innovation ecosystem offer numerous workshops and events. Facilities

QPI is located in the Seaway Coworking building in downtown Kingston. Our incubation and acceleration clients have access to the amenities available such as private Zoom rooms, a podcast studio and workshop and event space.

Queen's University is also a partner of the University of Toronto's ONRamp facility, located in the Banting Institute in Toronto. This facility is a 15,000 square foot collaboration and coworking space for the U of T entrepreneurship community and partner universities. To access this space, please contact Amanda Gilbert.
