Dr. Steven Liss appointed to Board of International Enviro Innovate Clean-Tech Foundation

Toronto Metropolitan University VICE-PRESIDENT, RESEARCH AND INNOVATION APPOINTED
TO BOARD OF INTERNATIONAL CLEAN-TECH FOUNDATION

BOSTON, MA / TORONTO, ON – Tom Thompson, Chairman of the Enviro Innovate Clean-tech Foundation, is pleased to announce that Dr. Steven Liss, Toronto Metropolitan University’s Vice-President, Research and Innovation, and a professor of Chemistry and Biology in the Faculty of Science, was today appointed to the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Dr. Liss is an experienced academic leader who has played a significant leadership role in the advancement of university education at the undergraduate and graduate levels at several universities.  His recent return to Toronto Metropolitan University in April 2017, follows a decade of distinguished service at the University of Guelph and at Queen’s University, where he served as Vice-Principal (Research) and a professor of Environmental Studies and Chemical Engineering since 2010.

“Dr. Liss is an internationally recognized leader in the world of academia and industry, holding positions on a number of boards and councils, either as a member or as Chair,” states Thompson. “He is also a highly regarded researcher in the areas of environmental biotechnology and engineering.  These credentials, when coupled with an impressive funding track record, including industry and international support, provides the Foundation with a unique and invaluable perspective at the Board level.  I have worked closely with Dr. Liss since 2014 and it is clear that the Foundation will benefit greatly from Dr. Liss’ international network, insight and experience.”

About Dr. Steven Liss

Steven N. Liss is Toronto Metropolitan University’s Vice-President, Research and Innovation, and a professor of Chemistry and Biology in the Faculty of Science. His recent return to Toronto Metropolitan University, April 2017, follows a decade of distinguished service at the University of Guelph and at Queen’s University, where he served as Vice-Principal (Research) and a professor of Environmental Studies and Chemical Engineering.

For his contributions to Canada’s research and innovation ecosystem, Dr. Liss was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. 

He has also held positions on a number of boards and councils and he has played an important leadership role nationally in the advancement of support for digital infrastructure as the founding co-chair of the Leadership Council on Digital Infrastructure (LCDI) and a founding board member and Corporate Officer of Compute Ontario.

The Enviro Innovate Cleantech Foundation has submitted its application for tax–exempt 501 (c) 3 status to the IRS in the United States, and for similar charitable status to CRA in Canada, and is awaiting determinations from both agencies in this respect.
