Increasingly, criminals today are targeting small businesses. Unfortunately, the damaging effects of cybercrime can be long-lasting, and sometimes irreversible.

In this 90-minute workshop, Melony Rocco, Licensed Private Investigator and owner of Bluebird Investigative Research & Development, will share with women entrepreneurs how to protect their businesses online.

Participants will get a glimpse into the world of cybercrime, and view their business through the lens of a criminal.

This workshop will empower entrepreneurs to:

• Learn how the most common cyber threats infiltrate small businesses.
• Identify areas of vulnerability to cybercrime within their business structure.
• Employ best practices to protect their business data from criminals.

Also included in the workshop is a tutorial on how to investigate if personal or business information is compromised using open source intelligence.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

Melony Rocco is the owner of Bluebird Investigative Research & Development and Director for the Association of Internet Research Specialists (North America). As a certified Open Source Intelligence Investigator and Ontario Private Investigator, she has a passion for the digital health of small businesses. Melony aims to teach entrepreneurs to be aware -- but never anxious -- when safeguarding their businesses.

ABOUT THE WE-CAN PROJECT:

The WE-CAN Project is led by Queen’s University and supported by the Government of Canada. Its mission is to inspire and empower existing and aspiring women entrepreneurs by providing them with tools, resources, expert mentors, networks and community building to expand existing businesses and to launch new ventures.

The Government of Canada, through FedDev Ontario’s Women Entrepreneurship Strategy (WES) Ecosystem Fund is providing $3.2 million for Queen’s University to design and deliver programs and services to accelerate, train, mentor and provide resources to women entrepreneurs and women-led companies in the community.

The focus of the WES strategy is to provide support to women entrepreneurs from diverse and underrepresented groups.
