Queen’s Partnerships and Innovation (QPI) and the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI) are hosting a panel discussion with three Kingston-based companies that have benefitted from OCI, ENCQOR 5G and CENGN programs. Please join us!

Company panelists will include:

• Dan Desjardins, President and CEO, Kings Distributed Systems
• John Garofalo, President and Owner, JIC Design
• Adam Allore, Founder and CEO, Wavve Boating

This is a great opportunity to hear these founders speak about their experience with these program(s) and how they benefited their company, how COVID has affected their venture, and how 5G solutions will affect their business.

Registrants will have the opportunity to ask the founders questions as well as about the programs and how to access these resources.

Kings Distributed Systems

Dan Desjardins is the CEO of Kings Distributed Systems (KDS) and the Executive Director of its educational non-profit arm Distributed Compute Labs. KDS's edge computing platform harnesses idle computing power from servers, computers and arbitrary devices to power AI and data-processing applications at the edge at a tenth of the cost of commercial cloud. The platform is offered at no cost to academic institutions around the world.

JIC Design

John Garofalo, President and Owner of JIC Design has created PRISM Systems. PRISM is a centralized registration, communication, tracking and reporting platform used by educational institutions to support the sharing of student data. It is currently being used by over 35 School Boards and 2 Colleges within Ontario.

Wavve Boating

Adam Allore is the Founder and CEO of Wavve Boating, a marine navigation software company. A lifelong boater and Engineer, Adam set out to tackle problems he regularly saw while helping customers at a marina he once worked for. Wavve Boating has grown into a solution that is used by thousands of boaters across North America via their mobile app, and was recently integrated onto the 2021 Sea-Doo by Bombardier Recreational Products.

Representatives from QPI, OCI, ENCQOR and CENGN will also be present to answer questions about their respective programs and resources.

Queen’s Partnerships and Innovation (QPI)

Queen's University’s Partnerships and Innovation (QPI) team supports the Research Portfolio’s mission to be an essential catalyst for advancing research and knowledge mobilization, strengthening Queen’s local, national and global impact. ENCQOR 5G

ENCQOR 5G (Evolution of Networked Services through a Corridor in Québec and Ontario for Research and Innovation) is a transformational Canada-Québec-Ontario partnership focused on research and innovation in the field of 5G disruptive technologies, on adoption initiatives and system uses. ENCQOR establishes the first Canadian pre-commercial corridor of 5G digital infrastructure — the key to making the digital economy a reality.

ENCQOR 5G has four distinct streams focused on supporting small-to-medium sized enterprises across Ontario and Québec, assisting in the pre-development of research, collaboration and vital testing of 5G technologies:

• ENCQOR 5G TalentEdge Internships

CENGN

CENGN helps small and medium-sized Canadian technology companies accelerate their product testing and commercialization efforts by giving them no-cost access to an enterprise-scale computing, cloud and networking testbed.

Offered through a partnership between CENGN and OCI, working on behalf of the Government of Ontario’s Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, the Next Generation Network Program (NGNP) supports the development and implementation of ultra-high-speed digital infrastructure to interconnect digital innovation hubs within Ontario, support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) proof-of-concept projects and access technical and business support personnel and services.
