The Department of Philosophy has been fortunate to hire several new philosophers over the past few years. In 2020, we welcome Dr. Catherine Stinson and Dr. Dolleen Manning.

Dr. Catherine Stinson is joining Queen's as a new faculty member in both the Department of Philosophy and the School of Computing at Queen’s. Catherine is coming to us from a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Bonn and the University of Cambridge and has a wide range of scholarly expertise, in AI ethics, computational modeling methods, model organisms, mechanistic explanation, body perception, and classification in psychiatry. Dr. Stinson also has interests in philosophy of computation and the philosophy of science. She has published widely and is active in public debate on normative questions about science and technology. Catherine has a wonderful record as an accomplished scholar, teacher and colleague. 

Dr. Dolleen Manning is joining the Department of Philosophy and the Cultural Studies Program at Queen’s. Dolleen Tisawii’ashii Manning is a member of Kettle and Stoney Point First Nation and is an interdisciplinary artist and scholar.  She is coming to us from a postdoctoral fellowship at Michigan State University and an appointment as an Assistant Professor at York University.  Dr. Manning has wide-ranging interests in Anishinaabe ontology, critical theory, phenomenology, and art, and questions of imaging practices, epistemological sovereignty, and the debilitating impact of settler colonial logics. She has published widely and has an impressive corpus of artistic work. Dr. Manning has a superb record as an accomplished scholar, artist, teacher, and engaged community member.
