How to Apply 

The MSc in Epidemiology specializing in Biostatistics program is administered under the rules and regulations of the School of Graduate Studies. Applications are accepted under these rules and regulations.

Step 1: Review the admissions requirements


MSc applicants will have a four-year undergraduate degree, with an overall minimum average of 75%. MSc applicants must have demonstrated the use of quantitative skills, by successfully completing courses in mathematics, statistics or data analysis.

Applicants to this program will normally have an Honours BSc degree in disciplines such as statistics, mathematics, biology, life sciences, health science or economics. Successful applicants normally have at least two undergraduate courses in calculus or linear algebra and two courses in applied statistics or probability.

Full time students are accepted into the program for a September start date each year. The deadline to apply for September 2018 is January 31, 2018. 

Step 2: Transcripts

Please note that if you are an applicant who is a graduate or current student of Queen's, at the undergraduate or graduate level, you do not need to send transcripts. Your student record from Queen's will be accessed by the admission's committee.

Prior to submitting your application, you will have the opportunity to upload your transcripts and any other documentation you wish to submit.

If you are accepted into the program, you will need to arrange for two official hard-copy transcripts to be sent to the School of Graduate Studies at the address below from the issuing university

Transcripts in languages other than English or French must be accompanied by an English or French translation provided by the institution issuing the transcript. 

Photocopied transcripts or those printed from a university website are not permitted. 

Degree and graduation certificates must be included if the transcript does not indicate the type of degree and date granted. 

Transcripts submitted with applications become the property of Queen's University, are subject to verification, are not available for copying and will not be returned to the applicant. 

Step 3: Letters of Recommendations
The School of Graduate Studies requires two current academic letters of recommendation. If you have been out of university for more than 5 years, one or more professional recommendations may be included. Applicants applying online will have the option to have their referee submit the letter of recommendation to Queen's electronically. Referees will receive an email from the School of Graduate Studies requesting their letter. 
Step 4: Complete any additional testing requirements

All required test scores must be received directly from the testing agency, before your application is complete. 

English Language Comprehension 

International students from a non-English speaking university and students with English as a second language will need to complete a TOEFL assessment.

The following English Language Proficiency tests results are accepted by the School of Graduate Studies:

For an overall minimum score of 88 (out of 120) 

Applicants must have the minimum score in each test, as well as the minimum overall score. 

Any applicant whose first language is not English, but who, within the 12 month period prior to the month of application, has studied for at least one complete year at a post-secondary institution where English is the official language of instruction, may submit with their application a request to be exempted from the English language proficiency test requirement. The Director of Admissions, School of Graduate Studies, will review the request. The applicant will be informed of the results of the review. 

Step 5: Complete application 
The online application will walk you through each step in the process, including how to submit transcripts, letters of recommendation and other documentation. You will first be invited to create an account using your email address. We will email you a User ID so that you can create a password to complete the online application. Complete all the screens as they are presented to you, remembering to click save and continue before you move on to the next set of questions.

Paying the Application Fee

When you have completed all sections, you can submit your application. At this point, you are asked to pay the non-refundable application fee online (currently $105 CDN). You must be able to pay the fee online with a Visa or Mastercard number in order to complete your application online.

Please note that the application fee of $105 (CDN) is non-refundable.

The application is considered complete when all of the documentation is received by the School of Graduate Studies.
