Three Students Awarded Empire Life Public Health Sciences Fellowship

The Department of Public Health Sciences continues its long relationship with Empire Life, with three fellowships totaling $20,000 awarded to current students.

This year’s recipients are Tanner Hoffman, Master of Public Health (left); Dylan O’Sullivan, PhD Epidemiology (middle); and Troy Hillier, MSc Epidemiology (right). Students are actively engaged in research on cancer prevention and applied public health on work on access to clean water.  


Paul's Story

Paul Boonmak is a first-year international student in our PhD Epidemiology program. He was born and raised in Bangkok Thailand and completed his MD degree at Bangkok’s Chulalongkorn University.  Paul received his General Medical-Practice License in 2015, and then turned his attention to research and the stigma of mental-health issues.

Arlanna’s Story

Arlanna Pugh has always had a strong interest in science, and in learning how we can change the way we view and understand the world through experiments and research.  She carried these interests throughout high school along with her natural curiosity about human anatomy and physiology, disease, and how the various social determinants of health influence health and wellness.
