Abstract:

Dirac's equation is at the key of various quantum and topological effects in physics. In this talk I will show that how Dirac equation can be simulated in photonic and mechanical systems, as well as their physical effects. Photonic/phononic band gap with nontrivial topology leads to unusual surface states  and reflection phases which are valuable for fundamental science and applications. Type-II Dirac points are shown to host anomalous refraction and robust surface states.. We also discover a robust cavity state bound to a dislocation as protected by the concurrent real-space and wavevector-space topology.
