Summer Research Assistant Position at RMC

Dates: May 2019 to August 2019
Deadline: Pre-applications must be received by end of business day on Friday February 15th, 2019.

Functions of the trainee: The Research Assistant will conduct experimental research in the laboratory of Professor Sabat. They will be trained to operate research equipment in optics and photonics. They will have to use lasers to inscribe optical nanostructures such as linear, nonlinear and circular diffraction gratings on photomechanical thin films. They will have to prepare test samples utilizing specialized scientific equipment, such as spin coaters, metal sputter coaters, physical vapour deposition, surface profilers, high powered lasers, atomic force microscope, spectrometers, etc... The research goal is to conduct in-depth studies on the generation, propagation and enhancement of surface plasmon resonance at metal/dielectric interfaces. The fabricated plasmonic nanostructures will be used as bio-sensors for detecting refractive index changes in aqueous solutions or to increase the efficiency of thin-film organic solar cells. Finally, the Research Assistant will have to put his/her research data clearly in Excel and they will have to write a summary report at the end of the internship.
