Research Interests
Political participation, deliberative democracy, state-society relations, political behaviour
Patricia’s research examines the implications of participation in long-form deliberative processes such as citizens’ assemblies and citizens’ juries on the practice of democratic citizenship. Inspired by innovations in democratic participation in the Canadian and Australian contexts, Patricia’s work seeks to gain insights into the consequences of this novel type of political participation for individual participants’ political efficacy and subsequent patterns of political participation. She hopes that this research will tell us a little more about whether deep citizen engagement produces better citizens.
