Brief Biography

Lama’s research is primarily related to Critical Political Economy and Critical Theory, but it is also interdisciplinary, often overlapping with IR more broadly, Development Studies, Urban Studies, and Geography.

She is interested in the lived experiences of people under capitalism, particularly vulnerable populations along the axes of class, gender, and race, in grave social inequalities under the current political-economic order, and in theorizing alternatives to it. Her PhD dissertation/current research focuses on the intersection(s) between capitalism, informality, and displacement at the urban level, with a focus on refugees and the urban poor/informal settlements residents. Born and raised in Cairo Egypt, Lama is interested in looking at the Global South, particularly in the context of the Middle East.
