New Resource for Post-Docs and Graduate Students: Versatile Career Paths

School of Graduate Studies has subscribed to the Versatile PhD (VPhD), an online resource for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. This new institutional subscription enables Queen’s students, staff and faculty to access practical information on how to transition from a doctoral program into a vast array of non-academic careers. All of it is based on the real experience of successful PhDs.

Access the Versatile PhD via the login button on the My QueensU page, “My Applications” tab. Once you reach the Versatile PhD login page, create a VPhD member account if it's your first time. If you already have a VPhD account, sign in as usual. Go directly to the PhD Career Finder and select any career to see all the resources devoted to it:

Hired: Authentic resumes and cover letters that got real PhDs their first jobs away from the faculty track, with detailed analysis that describes how they made the non-academic pivot and shows the application and hiring process step by step

Bio: Inspiring first‐person stories by experienced non-academic PhDs describing how their careers evolved over several years after moving out of the academy, including promotions, advancement, and signature accomplishments

Panel: Detailed inside information on a wide range of specific PhD‐friendly careers provided by PhDs in those careers, along with their answers to grad student questions
