Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Roundtable

Background

The final report of Queen’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission Task Force (TRCTF), "Yakwanastahentéha Aankenjigemi | Extending the Rafters", released in March 2017, explores ways in which the university can play an active role in addressing the broader themes of the national Truth and Reconciliation Commission report and the commission's Calls to Action.

The TRCTF recommendations are broad in scope, encompassing students, staff, faculty, administration, curricula, and support services. As such, the successful implementation of the recommendations is dependent on engagement from units across the university. A TRC Roundtable was established in the spring of 2018 to bring together representatives from faculties, schools, and administrative units and ensure that the university as whole is engaged in the work of reconciliation/conciliation.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Director of the Office of Indigenous Initiatives and the Deputy Provost (Academic Operations and Inclusion), the TRC Roundtable meets quarterly to:

  • Assist the Office of Indigenous Initiatives and the Deputy Provost (Academic Operations and Inclusion) in the coordination of Queen’s ongoing efforts to address the TRC Calls to Action;
  • Monitor the progress of the TRCTF implementation by reviewing faculty progress reports;
  • Encourage collaboration across faculties, schools, units and all departments;
  • Identify initiatives that would benefit from additional funding; and
  • Report issues, inefficiencies, and inconsistencies in the TRCTF implementation efforts to the TRC Roundtable for follow-up.
