In her role as Deputy Provost, Dr. Teri Shearer works closely with the senior leadership team at Queen’s to advance the academic, operational, and budgetary goals of the university. Dr. Shearer also oversees academic appointments, directs the Office of Planning and Budgeting, Institutional Research and Planning, and the Agnes Etherington Art Centre and chairs several senior university committees.
Dr. Shearer joined Queen’s University in 1996 upon completion of her PhD at the University of Iowa. Her research focuses on the social and behavioural consequences of accounting practices, and her papers have appeared in some of the top journals in this field. From July 2022 until the end of July 2023, Dr. Shearer served as Interim Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic).
During Dr. Shearer’s original stint as Deputy Provost, between January 2016 and July 2022, she played a leadership role in overseeing academic appointments, chairing the Senate Committee on Academic Development, overseeing the university’s response to the Principal’s Implementation Committee on Racism, Diversity, and Inclusion (PICRDI) report, and advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives on campus.
Prior to her role has Deputy Provost, Dr. Shearer served as Associate Dean of Faculty and Associate Professor at Queen’s Smith School of Business.
