Procedures for Clearance of Pilot Studies by Graduate Students
Special provisions are made for pilot research by graduate students (Graduate thesis and dissertation research is covered by standard procedures. Pilot research is defined as exploratory work that precedes data collection for the purposes of thesis submission or publication. Students must submit a package that consists of the following via ROMEO.
- Psychology face sheet (PDF, 38 KB) (MS Word doc, 36 KB)
- GREB submission (see GREB Forms) or brief description of study citing relevant details
- Sample Letter of Information* (MS Word doc, 58 KB)
- Sample Consent Form* (MS Word doc, 48 KB)
- *Sample Debriefing Form (if using Subject Pool) (MS Word doc, 72 KB)
- letter stating that the study is for exploratory purposes only

The PSYC REB will determine if it conforms to guidelines. An application for pilot research may precede a review of a thesis proposal but it is not a substitute for clearance of the thesis proposal.
