NEW! UPDATE ON EATING AND DRINKING ON QUEEN'S CAMPUS - As we know from Public Health experts, eating and drinking is a high-risk activity when it comes to the potential transmission of COVID-19. To help protect the health and safety of all students, faculty, and staff, the university has the following rules in place to follow around eating and drinking on campus. Psychology Graduate Students - If you are interested in having your name shared as a potential tutor, please email Anja Wilke in the Undergraduate Office with the courses you can tutor (can not be the course you are TA this year) and your contact information. We do not regulate tutoring (e.g., we do not comment on rates for pay, timing, or anything else), but are happy to share your information if you are interested in tutoring.

NEW! Summer Work Experience Program (SWEP)

The Summer Work Experience Program (SWEP), is entering its 27th year. Funded partially through the undergraduate portion of the Student Assistance Levy, the program encourages the creation of on-campus summer jobs that offer valuable experiential learning opportunities for Queen’s undergraduate students who will be returning to studies in the fall. Terracycle Disposable Mask Collection Boxes

In an effort to reduce disposable mask litter on campus and to eliminate this waste from landfill, Terracycle collection boxes have been deployed to the buildings listed below. If you notice a box is full, please contact Fixit.

  • Cataraqui Building (main foyer)
  • Rideau Building (ground floor)

Craine and Humphrey and Barrie Street Building Notices

CRAINE FLOOD DAMAGE REPAIR UPDATE - Please see the following notes regarding ongoing water damage repairs in the Craine Building:

  • Drywall is scheduled for delivery and installation the week of Sept. 13;
  • Dehumidifiers and construction work continue to affect air conditioning in Craine, making the building warmer than usual;
  • Emergency services (water damaged material removal) is scheduled for completion by the end of Sept. 13 at which time they construction crew will shift to non-emergency repair work. This will continue well into the Fall Term with additional timelines to come when known;
  • Noise from construction will continue to occur throughout the repair work;
  • Material from labs/offices in affected spaces on the 2nd and 3rd floor have been moved temporarily to allow repair work in those spaces to occur;
  • Questions or concerns may be directed to Department Manager Sarah Indewey (psycmgr@queensu.ca)

AGSIP LOUNGE CONSTRUCTION – Construction has begun in the Humphrey 201 (AGSIP Lounge). Contact Sola Ashcroft for information on this project.

H416, H417, H422, H423 CONSTRUCTION – Construction has begun in Humphrey 416, 417, 422, 423. Contact Asim Malik for information on this project.

H443 - H459 CONSTRUCTION – Construction is expected to begin soon in Humphrey 443 to Humphrey 459. Contact Asim Malik for information on this project.

C420 REPAIRS – Minor repairs in Craine 420 to accommodate mass spectrometer equipment. Contact Gord Meacher for information on this project.

H409, H411 FLOORING– A new floor will be installed at a later date in Humphrey 409-411. A project manager has yet to be assigned.

H460 - H471 CONSTRUCTION – Construction will begin at a later date in Humphrey 460 to Humphrey 471). A project manager has yet to be assigned.

Health and Safety and Mental Health

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY CONTINUES TO PROVIDE TRAINING - In the past year our training was provided online through OnQ or moved to virtual through MS Teams. Below are highlighted topics. You will find all topics on our website under the Training tab, whether training is role-specific or mandatory for all employees. Register at https://safety.queensu.ca/training

  • Health and Safety Awareness: This topic is mandatory for all employees and always available through OnQ. If hiring has been done for new to Queen’s employees please ensure they complete this training. This topic is only required to be completed one time per employer regardless of position.
  • Health and Safety for Supervisors: This topic will assist individuals in understanding their role as a supervisor, as well as their legal duties and responsibilities under the Occupational Health & Safety Act. The next session is scheduled for October 29th. Please register through the EHS website.
  • WHMIS.2015: Any person working with chemicals must complete WHMIS at Queen’s, as well as the Annual Refresher each following year. Both WHMIS.2015 and the Annual Refresher are available for self-registration and can be completed at any time through OnQ.
  • Biohazard Training: All Biosafety training and required Annual Refresher training continues to be available for self-registration through OnQ. This is a requirement for any person in Biohazard labs and working for Permits.
  • Radiation Safety Training: All Radiation safety training and required Annual Refreshers continue to be available for self-registration and provided through OnQ. This is a requirement for any person in Radiation labs and working for Permits.
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Training: Anyone shipping  or preparing dangerous goods for shipment must complete online TDG training available in OnQ by self-registration. We offer a standard TDG and an an additional module for shipping biohazardous materials.
  • First Aid and CPR: This topic has been temporarily postponed. We will be re-evaluating later in the Fall term to determine when this will be next available.
