Watch the twitching wings of the thing
As it struggles against the web’s
Sticky confines. The crafted silver stuff
Spins about the creature; and it dies.
Though, I hear they’re merely paralyzed.
Merely. Preserved in a sick cocoon
Like clingwrap. Better perhaps to think that
Pain is human – what we deserve, at least …

Matthew Rooney is a poet, visual artist, and short story writer. He is currently pursuing his PhD at the University of Western Ontario, where he acts as the content editor of the Word Hoard.
