
He started to talk. I thought he was going to give me the lesson about how lucky I was to be going to university. My mother was always repeating it. My father had gone to school until he was in grade five, and then he worked at the local dairy. My mother had two years of high school. She was shipped to Charlottetown, where she cleaned a rich family’s house.
