Incensed by my parking ticket, I still found the courage to make my way
to Costco. As I got out of the car, I noticed, as I had noticed before, a slow
leak in one of my tires. Ever diligent, I showed my Costco card to the person
dutifully checking memberships at the front door (a job that has since
been taken over by a machine) and made my way to the Costco Tire Center
counter ...

EGAN J. CHERNOFF is a faculty member in the Department of Curriculum
Studies, College of Education, and an associate member in the Department
of Mathematics and Statistics, College of Arts and Science, at the University
of Saskatchewan. He is also an adjunct professor in the Faculty of
Education at Simon Fraser University and a status only professor at the
