Spring 2021 - Pebbles


Perfectly smoothed stones dotted the outline of a path into the yard. They were obviously from somewhere beyond the forest. My eyes were set on an open window – the singing spilled out with a gentle grace. I drifted closer, stopping at the base of a large maple to sit with my back against its trunk. Out of sight from the house, I closed my eyes and breathed in the harmony of my senses. A duet soothed my rambling thoughts to settle on the perfect rustling of the leaves above as I inhaled the pleasant rot-smell of healthy soil below …

John Robinson Blackmore contributed a creative nonfiction story to the Best Kind anthology published by Breakwater Books, and he was a recipient of the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts and Letters Award for Short Fiction in 2018. As an active volunteer with Isha Foundation, he is an advocate of personal growth through a yogic lifestyle. He lives in Portugal Cove, Newfoundland.
