Gareth texted from the roadside, after the asphalt gave way to gravel. Just keep going was the reply. All the way to the end. Past the “Private: No Entry” sign. You will come to a white house. Helen and Roy will be there. They have change for fifty. This was from Aaron, who had posted the table on Kijiji for his neighbours. Phoebe had found it. She was looking for a trundle bed for the girls. And other things, too. She’d showed it to him: Round, glass-topped coffee table in great condition – 40-inch diameter – downsizing. “What do you think?” she’d asked. Gareth said he thought it was fine. He supposed it was still fine …
