Mathew Shawn Turner

Theory of how you drowned

she said her heart sank and she’s not a good swimmer.

i warned her not to fall

in love during warm days of summer.

i told her that

flowers would always grow if it weren’t for the cold. and that

long days would last if they didn’t get tired

but we do,

and you can’t swim.

this is how you drowned, singing along to summertime’s hymn.
