We are in a moment of possible radical change, and we have the unfortunate death of George Floyd to focus our minds as we rethink how we deal with racism. Looking back to my teenage self, I feel used, as though I had been thrown into a game where I didn’t know the rules, or even know whom or what I was playing against. Now, like the rest of society, I want to be part of the discussion moving forward …


Christopher Johnstone is a photographer, filmmaker, and MFA candidate in film production at Concordia University. He is currently researching his thesis film Five Acres, which will retrace his great-grandfather’s experience as an indentured labourer from India working in Trinidad in the early twentieth century.
